Mayan Adventure

Day 1 - Arrive in Cancun
Overnight in Cancun
Day 2-3 - Merida/Chichen Itza

The trip begins with an exploration of the ruins of Chichén Itzá, which is characterized by huge stepped pyramids. Discover for yourself how these ancient people flourished and extended their dominion of Mexico and Central America. Early evening we arrive at the colonial city of Mérida where we spend the next two nights.

Day 4-6 - Palenque/The Highlands

We head west by bus through Yucatán State into the lowlands of Chiapas and the town of Palenque. Lush tropical vegetation, waterfalls, and brilliant wildlife surround this ancient Mayan site. After our tour of Palenque we head inland towards the cooler highlands and the town of San Crístobal de las Casas. Once the Chiapas State Capital, San Crístobal is a colourful city with a rich indigenous culture.

Day 7-11 - Guatemalan Highlands

Crossing the Guatemalan border today our next destination is the shores of Guatemala's most beautiful lake, Lake Atitlán. We stay in Panajachel, a lakeshore town, surrounded by spectacular volcanoes and small villages. We also take a day trip to visit the Sunday market of Chichicastenango. The bustling market and parade make this an event not to be missed! Our final stop in the Guatemalan highlands is the colonial town of Antigua. Here you can choose from a number of optional activities: climb a volcano, mountain bike through the countryside, or simply relax and enjoy the unhurried atmosphere.

Day 12-13 - Flores/Tikal Guatemala

We continue north past Rio Dulce and Poptún along the road to Flores. This charming town, with its pastel-colored buildings, enjoys a scenic setting on Lake Petén Itzá. There will be time to stroll through the streets, buy local handicrafts or take a swim in the lake. We also have a day to visit the famous ruins of Tikal and the curious wildlife of the National Park.

Day 14-15 - San Ignacio, Belize

We move on to Belize, a country with a decidedly Caribbean flavor. The relaxed atmosphere of San Ignacio allows for options including horseback riding, canoeing, caving, or exploring the Mountain Pine Ridge Area on foot.

Day 16-18 - Caye Caulker

We spend the next couple of days in the laid-back setting of Caye Caulker - a tiny island with sand streets and no traffic. Options to snorkel or dive, enjoy some serious R&R and savour the delicious, fresh seafood.

Day 19-21 - Playa del Carmen

We return to Mexico by bus, stopping for two days of complete relaxation on the beach of Playa del Carmen. You can shop for some final souvenirs, visit the nearby island of Cozumel or the ruins at Tulum.

Day 22 - Depart Playa del Carmen

Tour ends. Free to depart at anytime.
Note: Playa del Carmen is located at a 45 minute-drive south of Cancún, therefore it is easy to head directly to the international airport without returning to Cancún.

What to take
You will be on the move a great deal, so our general advice is to pack as light as possible.
